City Life

Project Description:

My second design, City Life, was created in March 2006 for three reasons. The first reason was that there was was a design contest going on and I wanted a piece of the pie. But, failing to enter the contest in time, I still wanted to submit a template that would be fluid and malleable. This thing could work as a single column, 2 columns, or 3 columns in various ways. Thirdly, I was looking at an impending move to New York and, kind of, wanted to get my thoughts out about it (oh, how cold and yet exciting the city seemed to me).

The primary design elements in this free template are the navigation, with the flip down tabs, the multi-column design that can be manipulated in various ways, a class called "indent" which would help keeping the hierarchy of headings, and finally the stylistic flair of having white text on a dark background (like the good old days).

This is the least popular of all of my designs. I can't really tell you why either. I think many people may be looking for a finished design that they are simply placing content into. City Life was designed to be more than a basic throwaway template, but more of a HTML and CSS lesson for the masses. I think there is far more value that can be taken from that than a free design. </rant>
